What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are surgically implanted into the jawbone beneath the gums and topped with a dental crown.

They provide a stable foundation for replacement teeth, such as crowns or dentures, to be attached. Dental implants are typically made of biocompatible materials such as titanium, which allows them to fuse with the jawbone and become a permanent part of the mouth structure. They are used to replace one or more missing teeth and offer a more natural look and feel compared to traditional dentures or bridges. Dental implants can improve chewing ability, speech, and overall oral health, and they are considered a long-lasting solution for tooth loss.

Dental Implants Sydney Procedure

Step 1
Consultation

  • During your initial Complimentary Dental Implants Consultation, we will conduct an assessment of your oral health with our Cosmetic Dental Implants Dentist,

  • take X-Rays and a digital scan of your mouth,

  • discuss your treatment options, and payment options, and provide a detailed treatment plan should you wish to proceed,

  • and schedule your appointments.

Step 2
Surgery (IMPLANT)

  • By this appointment your dental implant screw will have been prepared and is ready for surgery.

  • You will receive anesthetic and will experience no pain as the screw is placed in to your jaw bone.

  • Your surgery is complete, and we now wait around 3 months for your bone to grow around the titanium implant, creating a sturdy base for your new tooth.

  • If your tooth is in the front of your mouth, a temporary crown may be fitted to the screw.

Step 3
Procedure (Crown Fitting)

  • After about 3 months we take an impression of your mouth and craft a new porcelain crown to be fitted to the titanium screw, which will have fused nicely with your jaw at this stage.

  • Your new implant is complete and you can begin to enjoy your new smile!

Step 4
Smile Checkup

  • After 1-2 weeks you will need to return to see our cosmetic dentists for a checkup to ensure the dental implant surgery and crown fitting has gone smoothly.

  • Smile! Getting Dental Implants is a positively life-changing decision, one you will enjoy for years to come.

Dental Implants FAQs

  • The cost of Dental Implants in Sydney can vary based on several factors, including the dental clinic, the experience of the dentist or specialist, and the number of Dental Implants needed.

At Paramount Dental Sydney, Dental Implants cost from $2,500 per tooth. The cost factors in the high quality of the Dental Implant titanium screw, the creation of the Dental Implant Crown by our lab, and the medical consultation, treatment, and adjustments from our team.

Investing in a Dental Implant is not just a financial commitment but a long-term investment in achieving a beautiful and enduring smile. Place your trust in Sydney’s best dental practice and cosmetic dentists, and book today with Paramount Dental Sydney.

  • The longevity of Dental Implants can vary depending on several factors, including the patient's oral health, habits, and the quality of the implant placement.

However, with proper care and maintenance, Dental Implants can last for many years, even a lifetime in some cases. Studies have shown that the success rate of Dental Implants over a ten-year period is typically around 95-98%.

Regular dental check-ups, good oral hygiene practices, and avoiding habits like smoking can all contribute to the longevity of dental implants.

  • Dental Implants themselves typically do not make you more sensitive to hot and cold temperatures. However, it's essential to understand that sensitivity to hot and cold can sometimes occur after dental implant surgery, especially during the initial healing period.

During the healing process, some patients may experience temporary sensitivity or discomfort around the implant site due to factors such as inflammation, swelling, or irritation of the surrounding tissues. This sensitivity usually diminishes as the healing progresses.

Once the Dental Implant has fully integrated with the surrounding bone and the healing process is complete, most patients do not experience increased sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures compared to natural teeth. In fact, one of the benefits of the titanium screws used for Dental Implants is that they function much like natural teeth and can provide a stable and comfortable biting surface.

However, if you experience persistent or significant sensitivity after the healing period, it's essential to consult with our team. Sensitivity could be indicative of other issues such as gum recession, nerve irritation, or improper placement of the implant, which may need to be addressed.

  • Titanium Dental Implants are generally considered safe and biocompatible for the vast majority of patients. Titanium is a commonly used material in medical and Dental Implants because it is highly resistant to corrosion and is well tolerated by the human body.

While allergic reactions to titanium are rare, they can occur in extremely sensitive individuals. However, these reactions are typically localised and mild, such as irritation or inflammation around the implant site.

Concerns about titanium Dental Implants causing poisoning are generally unfounded. Titanium is an inert material, meaning it does not react chemically with bodily tissues or fluids, and it does not release toxins into the body.

Your body’s reaction to the implant after surgery, and before the fitting of your Dental Implant Crown, is usually a good indication of how your body will accept the implant long-term.

That said, as with any medical procedure, it's essential to discuss any concerns or potential risks with us before undergoing Dental Implants surgery.

  • Conventional whitening methods are ineffective on Dental Crowns. Consequently, maintaining the brightness of your Dental Implant Crown requires regular upkeep. This requires regular twice-daily brushing, flossing and regular visits with your dental team, Paramount Dental Sydney.

  • Studies have indicated success rates ranging from 95% to 98% over a ten-year period, meaning that the vast majority of Dental Implants placed in Australia are successful in integrating with the bone and providing stable, long-term tooth replacement.

Several factors contribute to the success of Dental Implants, including the patient's overall health, oral hygiene practices, and proper post-operative care. Additionally, advancements in Dental Implant technology and techniques have improved success rates over the years.

Types of Dental Implants available in Sydney…

Dental Implants come in a variety of options depending on the amount of teeth that require replacement and the strength and health of your gums and jaw bone.

Dental Implant types

Single Tooth Dental Implant

Multiple Teeth Dental Implants

Full Mouth Dental Implants or ‘All-On-4’

Dental Implant Preparation Surgeries

Bone Grafting

Gum Grafting

Patients may require bone grafting or gum grafting prior to Dental Implant surgery for several reasons:

  1. Bone Loss: Insufficient bone density or volume in the jaw can compromise the stability and success of Dental Implants. Bone grafting procedures can augment the existing bone, providing a suitable foundation for implant placement.

  2. Sinus Lift: In the upper jaw, the sinuses may expand over time, encroaching on the available bone for implant placement. A sinus lift procedure involves lifting the sinus membrane and placing bone graft material beneath it to increase the height of the bone.

  3. Ridge Augmentation: Some patients may have a narrow or shallow ridge of bone where the tooth is missing. Ridge augmentation procedures can widen or heighten the ridge to create a more favorable environment for implant placement.

  4. Gum Recession: Receding gums can expose the roots of teeth and compromise the aesthetics and stability of Dental Implants. Gum grafting procedures can augment the gum tissue, covering exposed roots and improving the overall appearance of the smile.

  5. Periodontal Disease: Advanced periodontal (gum) disease can lead to bone loss and gum recession, necessitating grafting procedures to restore the health and structure of the supporting tissues before implant placement.

  6. Trauma or Injury: Traumatic injuries or surgical procedures may result in bone or soft tissue loss in the oral cavity, requiring grafting to rebuild the damaged area before implant placement.

  7. Implant Site Preparation: In some cases, bone or gum grafting may be performed as part of the implant site preparation process to optimize the conditions for successful implant integration.

By addressing these underlying issues before implant surgery, bone grafting and gum grafting procedures help create a stable and healthy foundation for Dental Implants, increasing the likelihood of long-term success and optimal outcomes for patients.
