Lingual Braces
Lingual braces, also known as “inside” braces are a more recent orthodontic treatment where the brackets and wires are attached to the inside of the teeth rather than the outside, making them practically invisible. They are a great alternative for those who are conscious about the look of traditional braces. It is an attractive option proven to be very popular with adults.
Can anyone wear lingual braces?
Not everyone is eligible to wear lingual braces. There may be concerns with using lingual braces if you have a deep overbite or small teeth. At Paramount Dental Sydney, our dentists will advise you if lingual braces are the best option for you.
Lingual Braces
factsheet
Procedure
First, we take an accurate impression of your upper and lower teeth. Your impressions will be sent to a lab to create a set of uniquely customised brackets to match the shape of your teeth. Once received, the braces will be cemented onto the back surfaces of your teeth.
During the first few weeks, you may have difficulty with your speech and find it hard to swallow. The lingual braces may also irritate your tongue causing sores and discomfort, as it will be hitting against your new braces. It will be challenging initially however your tongue will eventually get used to them.
The whole treatment process can take anywhere from 18-36 months, depending on the patient’s teeth.
after care
Dental hygiene is always important and having braces mean you have to be even more diligent about keeping your teeth clean, especially since they are behind your teeth making it harder to see. Make sure to brush after every meal and clean both above and below the brackets of your braces.
