Sedation Therapy ( Anxious Patients )
Sedation therapy is a solution designed to take away anxiousness some patients associate with a trip to the dentist. Our dentists here at Paramount Dental Sydney are qualified professionals trained in dental sedation guidelines. People with a busy schedule may also prefer sleep dentistry to allow all of their treatment to be done in one visit, where possible.
Patients at Paramount Dental Sydney have three sedation options when receiving dental treatments:
IV Sedation (sometimes called Twilight Sedation)
Nitrous Oxide (you probably know it as happy or laughing gas)

IV (Twilight) Sedation
IV sedation is administered through an injection to make people feel like they are asleep. Although remain conscious and can follow our instructions, the degree of sedation is so that you are unlikely to remember much.
The sedation is administered through a vein in your arm by a specialist sedationist. Common sedatives for this procedure include benzodiazepine, propofol, and other medications.
There are some patients who are not well suited to IV sedation including; People with a fear of needles, pregnant women, people suffering from glaucoma, lung or kidney problems and people with allergies to sedative drugs.

$450 per hour ($100 per additional 30 minutes)

Laughing Gas (NITROUS OXIDE)
Laughing gas is the most common form of sedation therapy used during dental procedures. Nitrous oxide is also called inhalation analgesia and you have probably heard of it being used to alleviate pain when giving birth. Though nitrous oxide does not put you to sleep, it is effective at reducing your anxiety about a dental procedure and is also very safe.

Oral Sedation
Oral Sedation is the other type of sedation therapy available at Paramount Dental Sydney. It comes in the form of a pill or liquid that you take orally. This is also known as enteral sedation. Like local anaesthetics, oftentimes it is used in combination with nitrous oxide. You may still be awake but you won’t experience any pain and all anxiety goes away.
